Google and the Ministry of Industry and Trade established a strategic relationship on August 15 to expand the Accelerate Vietnam Digital 4.0 programme, an initiative to provide free digital skills training for 500,000 workers at Vietnamese small-and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs).
The partnership will also facilitate the expansion of the scope of the project to rural areas in order to reach more Vietnamese people and help them gain success within their careers.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Cao Quoc Hung said that Vietnam’s e-commerce market grows about 30% annually, reaching US$8.06 billion in 2018 and accounting for 4.2% of total retail sales of goods and services. Nearly 40 million Vietnamese people have participated in online shopping with an average spending of US$210 per year.
He noted that many Vietnamese enterprises and household businesses are seeking answers to the question of how to take advantage of the Internet to sell and promote more products and develop search tools to find the most convenient and good value for money products.
Hung said that the cooperation with Google is an initiative demonstrating the social responsibility of a large technology group with long-term commitments in Vietnam.
The serious investment of Google and the participation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade will help to promote the development of human resources with digital skills in Vietnam, Hung added.
President of Google Asia Pacific Scott Beaumont affirmed that the strategic relationship with the Ministry of Industry and Trade will help bring the programme of Accelerate Vietnam Digital 4.0 to new heights. In addition, the digital era will bring about countless opportunities and Vietnam is in a good position to be able to realise its potential, he noted.
Accelerate Vietnam Digital 4.0 was launched in Vietnam in June 2018 which have provided digital skills training courses for nearly 85,000 SMEs in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, Da Lat and Hai Phong.
