Seminar seeks way to boost horticulture and floriculture exports to Asia and Europe

A seminar titled ‘Horticulture and Floriculture Exports: New movement in Asian and European markets' was held in Hanoi on October 24 by HortEx Vietnam.

Delegates at the seminar agreed that Asia and Europe are potential markets for Vietnamese fruit, vegetable and flower exports and imports.

They stressed that, following the recent signing of the Vietnam - European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Investment Protection Agreement (IPA) between the European Union (EU) and Vietnam, opportunities will open up for Vietnamese exporters of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to these markets.

To seize the opportunities, Vietnamese businesses need to increase the quality of their products, step up the application of science and technology in the processes of production, procession, storage, packaging and transportation, while improving connectivity to the global supply chain.

According to the Agro Processing and Market Development Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export value of Vietnamese fruit and vegetables is estimated at US$295 million in September, bringing the total turnover in the nine months of 2019 to US$2.81 billion.

Asian markets make up 85% of total export turnover, including top Asian markets such as China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
